The Cyprus Ports Authority and the Municipality of Larnaca have presented a long-term roadmap for the development of the Port of Larnaca, Larnaca Marina and adjacent land areas. Presented yesterday, 2 July 2026, the project includes phased implementation valued at over €400 million ($457 million USD), scheduled for delivery between 2027-2045.

The plan is divided into three subprojects, each covering a different part of the waterfront.

Estimated at around €190 million ($217 million), the first phase focuses on the land areas around the marina and nearby zones between 2027-2036. It includes landscaping, redesigned public spaces and the creation of new pedestrian and cycling routes.

The works also include new parking facilities, adjustments to existing parking areas and the relocation of boatyard operations. Additional space is planned for tourism, commercial, cultural and leisure uses across the waterfront.

The second phase covers the Larnaca Marina, with an estimated cost of around €20 million ($22 million) over the 2027-2036 period. It covers maintenance works and the construction of new service buildings alongside wider infrastructure upgrades.

Planned works also include extending the breakwater, building a new southern pier, installing floating docks and increasing berth capacity.

Covering the Port of Larnaca, the third phase is estimated at around €205 million ($230 million) and runs from 2027-2045. The project focuses on upgrading port infrastructure and equipment, refurbishing existing buildings and constructing new administrative and passenger terminal facilities.

The port authority stated that the project’s objective is to support the “creation of a modern and sustainable waterfront area combining port, tourism, commercial and public uses”.

Larnaca mayor Andreas Vyras described the roadmap as a first step in a wider process, noting that it is the first time a comprehensive plan has brought together the port, marina and surrounding land under a single project with defined priorities and timelines.

The mayor added that the municipality is approaching the planning process with a realistic outlook: “We must be honest with our citizens. Success will not be judged by announcements, but by the implementation of projects, adherence to timelines and their completion. The roadmap is the beginning of the journey, not the end.”
