Macao welcomed the first four yachts from Guangdong Province to its Coloane mooring area on 30 October 2026, during an inaugural southbound trip organised by the Maritime and Water Bureau. The voyage supports wider efforts to improve recreational vessel access across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The ceremony received support from Nam Kwong Group and was co-organised by Wui Hong Yacht Services. Maritime and Water Bureau director Wong Sui Man described the voyage as progress in maritime cooperation between Guangdong and Macao, noting the bureau’s plans to improve navigation support and berthing facilities, continue discussions with the yachting industry and work with authorities in Guangdong and Hong Kong on yacht travel and maritime safety.

For yachts visiting Macao from mainland China, authorities have simplified port entry and departure procedures by allowing operators to submit applications online without requiring owners or captains to attend in person. In terms of berthing capacity, the city has more than 220 berths for local and visiting vessels, which also accommodate yacht exhibitions, sailing competitions and other events. A temporary anchorage area has also been established off Hac Sa Beach for yacht activities.

The inaugural trip follows the arrival of five Guangdong yachts at Lantau Yacht Club in Discovery Bay, Hong Kong, on 16 October. The visit was the first southbound voyage between Guangdong and Hong Kong, after northbound travel began in June and authorities reached an agreement on two-way yacht travel in September.
