Four coastal marinas in Georgia have recently received Clean Marina certification. Savannah Yacht Club, Belle Bluff Island Marina, Safe Harbor Bahia Bleu and Hinckley Yacht Services have all demonstrated adherence to Clean Marina Best Management Practices (BMPs), aimed at reducing pollution and protecting local waterways.

The Clean Marina certification is awarded to facilities that implement environmentally responsible measures across all aspects of their operations, including waste disposal, stormwater management and the reduction of nonpoint source pollution.
According to Kelly Hill of the Georgia Coastal Resources Division (CRD), “This successful relaunch is a testament to the strong partnership among our organisations.”
Bryan Fluech from UGA Marine Extension echoed this sentiment, “This programme reflects our shared commitment to conserving Georgia’s coastal resources.”
Located on Wilmington River in Savannah, the Savannah Yacht Club offers a private, member-focused experience with recreational amenities including sailing, swimming, tennis and fine dining. The club’s operational management and policy reviews continue to support its long-term success.

Further south in Townsend, Belle Bluff Island Marina features fishing docks, wet and dry boat storage and amenities such as restrooms, hot showers, a campground and bait and tackle services. The marina caters to a variety of vessels up to 21-metres (70-feet) in length.

Safe Harbor Bahia Bleu, located in Thunderbolt just outside Savannah’s centre, delivers a modern marina environment. The marina offers wet and transient slips up to 30-metres (100-feet) LOA, dry storage facilities and valet launch and haul services.

Also in Thunderbolt, Hinckley Yacht Services brings a full-service marine repair and refit operation to the region. With lift capacities up to 80 tonnes, specialised marine mechanical, electrical, upholstery services and an indoor heated rack storage, the marina is equipped to handle technical needs. Additional offerings include concierge services, transient slips, a ship’s store and a laundromat for long-term guests.

The Clean Marina designation not only reflects facility excellence but also reinforces the marinas’ role in preserving Georgia’s marine life. With enhanced facilities and a clear commitment to best practices, marinas such as Savannah Yacht Club, Belle Bluff Island Marina, Safe Harbor Bahia Bleu and Hinckley Yacht Services are setting a standard for the future of responsible boating.
