A tender for the 30-year concession of Estepona Marina has attracted 11 bids as Andalusia continues its programme to renew port concessions and modernise its port system. The concession covers the operation and management of the site’s nautical and recreational area and requires at least €10 million ($11.3 million USD) in investment.

The marina, in Málaga province on Spain’s western Costa del Sol, has a water area of 3.60 hectares and 447 berths for vessels from six to 35 metres. Five pontoons stretch for a combined 500 metres on the eastern side, and another three cover 240 metres on the western side.

On land, the marina occupies 2.14 hectares and has a 425-metre quayside wharf divided into seven sections. Around 7,000sqm is taken up by buildings for commercial units, a control tower and toilets, plus roads, terrace and multi-purpose areas and 272 parking spaces.

Mario Muñoz-Atanet, regional minister for development and mobility, said the Estepona concession is part of the Andalusian Government’s strategy to modernise its port system, which focuses on investment in directly managed ports and the renewal of concessions. He added that public-private collaboration can “mobilise new investment and improve services, as well as ensuring the efficient use of public port land”.
