The European Boating Industry (EBI) and the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) have formalised a new collaboration aimed at strengthening sustainable practices within European nautical tourism. The partnership was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding, reflecting a shared focus on innovation, environmental responsibility and industry collaboration.

The agreement brings together two organisations with distinct yet complementary roles in the maritime and tourism fields. FEE sets internationally recognised sustainability standards for tourism through its Green Key programmes and Blue Flag certification for marinas and beaches, while EBI engages with European institutions and stakeholders to shape recreational boating policy. The partnership places an emphasis on promoting environmentally conscious boating practices and supporting infrastructure that meets sustainability standards.

EBI and FEE aim to facilitate joint projects and initiatives, including mutual promotion of activities and regular engagement to enhance policy dialogue and practical implementation across the sector.

EBI Secretary-General Philip Easthill stated: “This is an important step forward for the recreational boating industry in Europe. By aligning with FEE, we are reinforcing our commitment to a sustainable future for nautical tourism, one that balances growth with environmental responsibility.”

CEO of FEE Daniel Schaffer commented: “The Foundation for Environmental Education is proud to formalise its collaboration with the European Boating Industry Association through this memorandum of understanding. By aligning with EBI, we aim to further our shared commitment to protecting marine and coastal environments while supporting innovation and responsibility in the recreational boating community. Together, we can chart a more sustainable course for the future of European waters.”

The agreement between EBI and FEE marks a step towards advancing sustainability in European nautical tourism. Through shared advocacy and ongoing cooperation, the partnership is expected to support responsible development across marinas, boating activities and coastal destinations.
