Dana Point Marina, one of Orange County’s boating destinations, is undergoing a revitalisation designed to modernise its facilities while enhancing public access and environmental sustainability. Developed by Bellingham Marine and overseen by sister company Bellport, the marina upgrade is central to the broader Dana Point Harbor transformation led by Dana Point Harbor Partners (DPHP).

At the centre of the redevelopment is the construction of a new marina featuring over 2,200 boat slips and 493 dry boat storage spaces across 20.5 acres. Bellingham Marine’s dock system replaces all treated wood and ferrous metals with innovation, reducing environmental impact and improving dock durability.

The redesigned marina also introduces improved access for visiting vessels. Three dedicated guest docks are being relocated to the outer basin at the harbour entrance, offering berthing for vessels ranging from 6-metre to 60-metre (20 to 200 feet).

Construction began in 2022 and is being delivered in a total of 15 phases. The recently completed Phase 8 in the West Basin Island was completed in March 2025 and opened on 1 April 2025. Phase 7.1, which includes the east portion of E-dock, is currently undergoing demolition and is expected to reopen by July 2025. Once complete, the phase will finalise West Basin's revitalisation. Phase 9, targeting the East Basin Island and commercial fishing dock, is scheduled to begin later in the year.

In collaboration with the California Coastal Commission, the marina design includes expanded public access points, ensuring that waterfront areas are open and welcoming. Part of the initiative includes relocating parking inland to make space for waterfront parks, retail and hotel amenities, giving visitors direct access to both land- and water-based activities.

Social equity has also been built into the marina project. Bellwether is partnering with local non-profit organisations to provide underserved Orange County youth with opportunities to engage in ocean education, sailing, swimming and other water-based experiences, serving over 1,000 participants annually.

As construction progresses, Dana Point Marina is setting a standard for community-focused, environmentally conscious marina development. With modern infrastructure, sustainable materials and a clear commitment to accessibility, the revitalised marina is on course to remain a centrepiece of California’s coastal boating landscape for generations to come.
