Located in Region Seven, the new marina is expected to position Bartica as a hub for yachting and boating in Guyana’s growing tourism sector. President Ali stated: “As the economy grows, more and more people will be interested in boating as part of our tourism product. There is no better location than Region Seven to have those facilities.”

He added that the marina will include a modern tourism terminal to improve visitor experience and encourage investments in hotels and tourism services. The project will link with wider transport developments, including waterfront upgrades in other regions and new vessels to improve connectivity.

Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill said the plan reflects a commitment to sustainable development, highlighting improved docking, low ramps and dedicated spaces for various vessels to boost safety and efficiency.

According to Guyana Times, the marina announcement followed the commissioning of the $553 million Bartica Stelling upgrade. The 2,137sqm (23,000sqft) concrete facility now offers expanded access for vehicles and pedestrians, parking and a new floating speedboat dock for water taxis. Works also included a floating link span bridge and repairs to the fixed mooring ramp.

The Department of Public Information noted that the Bartica marina is part of a national programme to modernise waterfront facilities, with similar projects planned or underway in Vreed-en-Hoop, Supenaam, Parika and Port Kaituma.
