Club Náutico Ibiza and current facility operator Puertos y Litorales Sostenibles have submitted bids to manage and operate the nautical facility at the Port of Ibiza under a public tender launched by the Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB). With a planned investment of €20 million ($23 million USD), the project aims to modernise facilities and promote sailing and canoeing activities at the port.
The concession will run for a maximum of 25 years and aims to promote maritime sports activities and establish the facility as a centre for sailing and canoeing. As part of the tender, the future operator will be required to establish and develop schools for both sports, create federated competition teams and organise sporting and recreational events. The plans also call for grants and logistical support for athletes, as well as educational activities covering sporting, social, cultural and environmental topics.
Alongside these requirements, the financial commitment each proposal makes to promoting sporting activity will be a significant factor in assessing the bids, according to the APB.
The selected firm will also be required to provide services including berth management, catering, water and energy supply, boat repairs, parking and dry dock facilities, with at least four percent of berths equipped with charging points for electric boats, as the facility will focus on accommodating vessels based at the port. It must also provide at least 170 berths for vessels measuring between six and 15 metres, with up to 15 percent available for visiting vessels.
The investment will begin with an initial phase of approximately €15 million ($17 million) over the first two years of the concession, including a major redevelopment of the harbour basin, construction of a new breakwater and refurbishment of the existing buildings. The second phase, estimated at €5 million ($5.8 million), would allow for the expansion and further development of the buildings at the site, subject to approval of the Special Plan for the Port of Ibiza.
