Stella Marinas has acquired Sassafras Harbor Marina on the Sassafras River in Georgetown, Maryland. The acquisition marks the company’s fourth marina purchase in the state within the past 18 months.
Sassafras Harbor Marina serves both local and visiting boaters along the northern Chesapeake Bay. The marina has 204 slips, with floating docks and both open and covered shed slips.
The marina offers on-site amenities such as a café, slipholder lounge, pool, ship store, yacht brokerage and service department. A 70-tonne Travelift is used to support vessel maintenance and repair at the facility.
Ryan Comisky, owner of Stella Marinas, said the marina’s location and operations aligned with the company’s growth plans in the Chesapeake Bay area.
“Sassafras Harbor checked every box for us. It’s nearly fully occupied thanks to a great team and well-maintained facilities,” Comisky told Marina World. He added that the marina’s distance of about 35 minutes from Swan Creek Marina in Rock Hall supports coordination between the two locations.
The marina has operated in Georgetown for more than 30 years. The Smith family purchased the property in 1993, when it was known as the Sassafras Boat Company, before reopening it in 1994 following a full renovation. The marina remained under family ownership until the recent sale.
“The Smith family built this marina by putting boaters first, and that doesn’t change under our ownership. Our goal is to preserve the family-friendly culture they created while thoughtfully upgrading amenities and using technology to make the experience even easier and more enjoyable for customers,” Comisky said.
“Our first priority is listening to slip holders and understanding what matters most to them before finalising any plans,” Comisky added.
The acquisition was completed through an off-market transaction conducted directly between the buyer and seller.
Stella Marinas is a privately held marina investment platform focused on acquiring and enhancing waterfront assets throughout the Chesapeake Bay.
