Officials met in Sinop as ground surveys began for a planned marina and cruise port on Türkiye’s northern Black Sea coast, where details of the proposed facilities were discussed.
Plans shared during the meeting outline berths for 202 small vessels and seven superyachts of 30 metres each, more than three hectares of back-of-quay area and 4,950sqm of maintenance space. The facility will also accommodate three cruise ships, including two measuring 200 metres and another measuring 300 metres.
Stretching from Gerze to Türkeli, Sinop has a 175-kilometre coastline, around 10 coves, a sheltered natural harbour and underwater archaeological sites. According to the TR82 regional tourism master plan, which covers Sinop, Kastamonu and Çankırı, the harbour structure and coastal setting make Sinop one of the more favourable yachting destinations in the region.
Governor Mustafa Özarslan said the project would be the first of its kind on the Black Sea, adding that Sinop’s history and geography as a port city made it a natural location for such a development. He also described it as a significant investment, as weather and sea conditions at the site from June to September are within the ranges sought by yacht owners and visitors.
Özarslan also thanked president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, minister of transport and infrastructure Abdülkadir Uraloğlu and Sinop parliament member Nazım Maviş for supporting the project. Maviş, Muhtesin Sevinç, the 9th regional director of the ministry of transport and infrastructure, and provincial chairman Yakup Üçüncüoğlu attended the meeting as ground survey work commenced at the planned site.
