Plans for the first phase of the Harborwalk master plan at Sandwich Marina, on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, have received $1,808,514 USD in state funding through the Commonwealth’s Seaport Economic Council Grant Program. The town said the project, in development since 2024, will focus on pedestrian safety, accessibility and waterfront resilience.

The project aims to improve pedestrian access through the marina, which supports commercial fishing, charter services, recreational boating and public safety operations across more than 200 commercial and transient slips. It is also planned to reduce the overlap between foot traffic, marina roads and day-to-day operations during busier periods and improve access to docks, restaurants, businesses and public waterfront amenities.
Phase 1 of the project will add an elevated timber boardwalk of about 400ft (122 metres) along Ed Moffitt Drive, extending from the boat launch parking area towards D dock, alongside a pavement connection about five feet (1.5 metres) wide, new curb cuts, accessible transitions and upgraded links to accessible parking. The town said plans also include shoreline and landscaping work along a low-lying stretch that is vulnerable to high tides, and further phases could extend the harbour walk farther through the marina to reach additional areas.
In a social media post, the town thanked the Healey-Driscoll administration, Seaport Economic Council, state legislative delegation, town staff, harbourmaster’s office and select board for supporting the project, along with engineering and consulting firm Tighe & Bond, which has worked on the design.
