Residents, business owners, public officials and local professionals gathered in New Richmond, Ohio, on 11 August 2025 to mark the groundbreaking of the Liberty Landing redevelopment project along the Ohio River. Valued at $13.4 million USD, the initiative is part of the State of Ohio Appalachian Community Grant programme aimed at revitalising riverfront communities.

Governor Mike DeWine attended the event and stated: “The other thing that we wanted to do is to really capitalise on this great Ohio River. We wanted every community to be able to really benefit from the quality of life. People are able to have access to the river. People would be able to come out and just have fun and connect with that river and sort of open up,” according to a report by LOCAL 12, WKRC-TV.

The redevelopment will take place in two phases. Streetscape improvements along Front Street will begin later in August, while construction of the marina is scheduled for next spring. The project is expected to conclude by October 2026.
