MDL Marinas has announced an expansion project at Penton Hook Marina as part of its wider investment programme across its marina network. The project will increase berthing capacity and improve facilities for boat owners and visitors at the River Thames marina.
The project will reconfigure the existing X Pontoon by adding nine 14-metre angled pontoons, which will create 18 new berths for barges and narrowboats up to 20 metres in length. Works also include upgrades to shower and washroom facilities, with the refurbishment covering new fittings, flooring, improved heating, LED lighting and refreshed interiors.
Further improvements will include exterior updates, with new timber cladding and redecoration for the buildings.
Benedict Moran, marina manager at Penton Hook Marina, said the project aims to support the long-term future of the marina and meet the expectations of today’s boat owners.
Moran added: “At the same time, we’re investing in the facilities our berth holders and visiting boaters use every day. The improvements will make a real difference to the overall experience, creating more modern, comfortable facilities for everyone. We want Penton Hook to be a marina that people genuinely enjoy spending time in, and these improvements are another step towards that.”
The Penton Hook Marina improvements are included in MDL Marinas’ wider investment activity across its UK marina network. In December 2025, the company announced a further £6.35 million ($8.5 million USD) investment for the 2025/26 berthing season.
