The Marina Mirage precinct on the Gold Coast has started a $500 million AUD redevelopment led by Makris Group. The project is expected to enhance the Southport Spit waterfront ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

Completed in late 2021, the precinct’s 78-berth superyacht marina will continue operating during construction. The marina accommodates vessels from 12 to 85 metres and includes helipad access.

After 37 years of operation as a dining, retail and marina area, Marina Mirage’s commercial precinct closed last week as work on the project starts. The plans are inspired by European waterfronts and include residential, hotel and wellness facilities.

The site is located along the Broadwater and provides beach access and boardwalks along the Southport Spit. According to Makris Group, the project is the largest of its type currently underway in Australia.

Plans include a 126 key Marina Mirage Gold Coast, a Luxury Collection resort by Marriott International. The precinct will also feature 38 residences, seven dining venues and eight boutique stores.

A 2,000sqm wellness centre will provide recovery, fitness, biohacking and wellness programmes. In addition, 1,000sqm of event spaces will support functions, pavilions, rooftop events and co-working areas.

“We are establishing the benchmark in Australia for a destination that embodies the sophistication of a Riviera lifestyle yet feels unmistakably Australian. Residents and visitors will move effortlessly from their yacht to their villa to fine dining, curated retail and world-class leisure and wellbeing experiences. This builds on the vision of my father, Con Makris, who recognised early the Gold Coast’s potential as a world-class coastal destination,” said Jason Makris, Chief Executive Officer of Makris Group.

Selected waterfront restaurants will remain open until January 2026, with on-site parking available. The redevelopment is scheduled for completion in 2029. Makris Group estimates the project will create about 2,500 jobs during construction and support over 400 ongoing positions once operational.
