Hurricane Ian severely damaged Legacy Harbour Marina when it struck Southwest Florida in September 2022. Four years later, the waterfront property in downtown Fort Myers has reopened following an approximately $15 million USD redevelopment and is now accepting slip reservations.
Legacy Harbour Marina occupies about 13 acres along the Caloosahatchee River, providing direct access to the Gulf and sitting near the Fort Myers River District. Damage caused by Hurricane Ian led to plans for a complete redevelopment of the site, which entered construction in early 2025.
The project rebuilt the marina with 131 slips measuring 30-140ft (nine to 43 metres) and Bellingham Marine’s Unifloat concrete wave attenuator system, supported by 70ft (21-metre) steel piles. For the interior docks, the project used the company’s Unideck aluminium frame system and WearDeck synthetic decking. The redevelopment also added potable water, in-slip pump-out, fire suppression, fibreglass dock boxes and single-phase shore power.
As part of the reopening, Coastal Marina Management serves as the site’s management partner, handling daily operations, dock staff and customer service. The marina also uses Dockwa for slip reservations, contracts, payments and communication. Later this year, Nellie’s Boatyard is scheduled to open in the former Joe’s Crab Shack space after interior renovations and landscaping. Legacy Harbour Marina is also on the route of the 53rd Annual Fort Myers Boat Show from 12-15 November 2026, featuring vessels on the Caloosahatchee River, marine equipment and accessory vendors.
