James City County in Virginia, USA, is seeking investor interest in the potential sale of the James City County Marina, a public waterfront facility situated on Powhatan Creek in the Jamestown District. Since acquiring the property in 2006, the county has made improvements to the marina, creating opportunities for private-sector involvement in its management and future development.

The marina is located near key attractions including Jamestown Settlement and Jamestown Beach Event Park. The marina offers a range of amenities, including 48 boat slips, five jet ski slips, two transient slips and a dock for day use.
Additional facilities include a double-wide boat ramp, a paddle craft launch area and off-site storage for 50 boats and trailers, as well as storage for 52 paddle craft. Other features include marine-grade ethanol-free fuel, a seasonal bathhouse with showers, a picnic shelter and a butterfly garden.
The county’s investments have included replacing ageing docks with modern structures, upgrading fueling and pump-out stations and enhancing the shoreline for environmental sustainability. A master plan prepared by the county sets out possibilities for expanded marine services, additional boat slips, parking and a waterfront restaurant.

Assistant County Administrator Jason Purse said: “With the investments the county has made over the years, we view this amenity as a wonderful feature in our community, and potentially one that may be best served for future development by a private organization. The county believes now is an appropriate time to gauge interest from private sector investors. Any potential sale would ultimately require approval from the Board of Supervisors.”
Following a public procurement process, James City County has engaged Richmond-based CarverCo LLC to lead the marketing and sale of the marina.
