The Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) is moving forward with plans to develop new maritime facilities along its waterfront, aiming to enhance both recreational and commercial operations, according to a report by The Times of India.

The port has allotted 8,000 square-metres of waterfront area to Marintek Pvt. Ltd to build a floating marina near the upcoming international cruise terminal. Valued at ₹25 crore (more than $2.8 million USD), the project will cater to small and medium-sized vessels and provide supporting services for operators.

MPA chairman Vinodkumar Nair said: “The port is not investing anything; it will only collect the lease for the water area. It will be a kind of parking lot for yachts with allied services. Because the area is in front of the new international cruise terminal, naturally, the allied services will come up, and these services can be used by the yacht operators as well.”

In addition to the marina project, Mormugao Port has resumed container shipping after nearly seven years. The container vessel MV SCI Mumbai docked at berth No 10, carrying a total of 50 containers with 33 loaded with goods and 17 empty for future shipments.
