The French Polynesian government proposed the AS15 marina in Hao during a council of ministers meeting on 22 September 2026 to support maritime activity on the atoll. Meanwhile, studies are continuing on renovations to the existing marina in Otepa Village.

The proposed AS15 marina would be built in northern Hao, closer to the pass than the existing marina, which would reduce travel time between the harbour and fishing grounds and could also lower fuel costs for fishermen. The first phase of the plan would cater to small vessels through a boat launch ramp and a mooring pontoon and is estimated to cost 100 million CFP francs (more than $900,000 USD).

Funding for 2027 is still under consideration, and space for boat storage and maintenance could be added later based on the needs of the fishing industry. The marina was one of three projects presented for the atoll, together with proposals for new aquaculture activities and a business zone aimed at supporting local employment and economic activity.

At the existing marina in Otepa Village, studies are underway for renovations covering the boat launch ramp’s relocation, land stabilisation near the town hall and repairs to the marina walls. Once completed, the marina would be able to accommodate around 15 traditional fishing vessels.
