Authorities in Da Nang, a coastal city in central Vietnam, have agreed to repurpose a marina along the Han River into a public space, officials confirmed on 7 April 2026, as the city looks to improve its waterfront and address an unused site in the centre.

According to People’s Public Security Newspaper (CAND), the plan was announced during a first-quarter press conference held by the Da Nang City People’s Committee, where the Department of Construction said the restaurant and marina complex south of the Han River Port would be converted for community use.

Covering more than 4,000sqm on Bach Dang Street, the project was developed by I.V.C Co., Ltd., with land leased in late 2015 and construction completed in 2017. Despite significant investment, it has remained closed due to legal issues involving the developer, Phan Van Anh Vu.

The project has also drawn attention over its effect on the surrounding landscape and the impact on public access along the western bank of the Han River. City planners have since included the site in a broader central park plan stretching from the Thanh Dien Hai area and the administrative centre to the riverfront.

The Department of Construction said a project management board is working on the plan and preparing an investment proposal.
